Surface modification of perlite by using silane for the enhancement of heat aging resistance of natural rubber vulcanisates
The enhancement of mechanical properties of natural rubber vulcanisates was expected by surface modification of perlite particles. Thus the objective of the present study was to investigate the cure properties and the heat aging resistance properties in terms of stress at 100% elongation tensile strength and percentage elongation at break after surface modification. Furthermore the rebound resilience and abrasion resistance of perlite treated with silane filled in NR vulcanisates were investigated. In a comparison the properties of clay-filled NR vulcanisates were determined. The results reveal that surface modification by using silane caused a reduction of scorch time and cure time but an increase in torque difference and swelling resistance. Also surface modification gives better perlite-NR interactions before and after aging. The better heat resistance properties of perlite-filled NR vulcanisates than those of clay-filled vulcanisates is detected from relative property data. Nevertheless a lower percentage of rebound resilience and abrasion resistance of perlite-filled vulcanisates before and after surface modification than those of clay-filled vulcanisates are observed. This is owing to the large particle size low specific surface area poor dispersion and agglomeration of perlite in NR vulcanisates.

This research aimed to develop paper from oil palm empty fruit bunch (Fb) oil palm mesocarp (M) and paper mulberry (P) with chitosan coating to be used as single-use paper bag for dry food products. The optimal pulp preparation conditions for Fb M and P fibers were boiling in 25 25 and 15% NaOH solution at 170 170 and 100°C for 3 hours respectively. The optimal H2O2 concentrations for bleaching of Fb M and P pulps were 40% 40% and 0.2% respectively. The obtained pulps were used to prepare papers with the basis weight of 109 g/m2 . The papers consisted of Fb M and P pulps at ratios of 70:0:30 (FbP) 0:70:30 (MP) and 35:35:30 (FbMP). It was found that FbP paper showed superior physical and/or mechanical characteristics than those of MP and FbMP. FbP papers were then coated with chitosan solutions (0.2-0.6%) to further improve their mechanical properties and reduce their water absorption characteristics. The optimal concentration of chitosan was 0.4%. This study showed that all three types of pulps could be used to produce papers that had equal or superior mechanical- and water adsorption properties as compared to those of commercially available paper bags made from wood pulp.

This research aims to study the appropriate drying condition and extraction solvent for extracting protein and antioxidants from the porcine placenta. Three levels of drying temperature were used in this study which were 50 60 and 70ºC the result shows that the best drying condition for porcine placenta was 70ºC for 4 hours because this condition provided the least drying time and the lowest moisture content of porcine placenta (3.80±3.36% dry basis). After that the fresh and dried porcine placenta were extracted by using three solvents which were deionized water (DI) phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and hexane. The efficiency of extraction was investigated by measuring the crude protein and antioxidant of the porcine placenta. It was found that there was no protein and antioxidant in fresh and dried porcine placenta extracted by hexane. However the protein was found as 0.05±0.01 and 0.04±0.01 mg of bovine serum albumin/100 mg fresh for fresh porcine placenta and 0.12±0.030 and 0.07±0.016 mg of bovine serum albumin/100 mg fresh for dried porcine placenta extracted by DI and PBS respectively. In additional the antioxidant was found as 1.13±0.03 and 1.29±0.04 mg of trolox/100 mg fresh for fresh porcine placenta and 3.37±0.02 and 3.59±0.01 mg of trolox/100 mg fresh for dried porcine placenta extracted using DI and PBS respectively.
Proteolysis and lipid oxidation during ‘mu som’ fermentation as affected by different ratios of white and black glutinous rice
Changes in muscle protein proteolysis and lipid oxidation of ‘Mu Som’ added with different white and black glutinous rice ratios (w:w) at 100:0 (W100) 75:25 (W75B25) 50:50 (W50B50) 25:75 (W25B75) and 0:100 (B100) during 72 h fermentation at 30°C were investigated. During 36 h fermentation B100 exhibited a higher rate of fermentation than others as indicated by lowered pH and lactic acid production (p<0.05). Due to higher acid production rate the proteolysis of muscle proteins as evidenced by the increase in trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-soluble peptides and smaller molecular weight of proteins appeared as electrophoresis were more pronounced. These might contributed to higher released water and expressible water as well as pale color. Higher black glutinous tice higher released water and expressible water were observed. The lipid oxidation in all samples was observed during fermentation. All samples had no difference in likeness scores of all attributes (p>0.05). From the results the ratio of white and black glutinous rice might contribute to proteolysis which effected on released water of Mu Som.

This project presents the design and development of application software of retail management system for drinking yoghurt. The developed application runs with Client/Server processing on Windows XP or higher. The objective is to be convenient for checking products automatic adding/removing products in warehouse counting stocked products and editing data. Tools used in development are Microsoft SQL Server for database management Visual Basic Version 6.0 for application development and database programming and Crystal Report 8 for creating reports and invoices. The developed application can enhance the effectiveness in retailing for drinking yoghurt properly.
