Life Cycle Assessment Study For Two Different Phenol Production Processes
Life Cycle Assessment Study For Two Different Phenol Production Processes

Phenol is an important raw material in many branches of industry (petrochemical pharmaceutical plastic and pesticidal chemical industry ). This research study on phenol production processes by using two different phenol production processes which are cumene oxidation (the Hock process) and toluene oxidation (the Dow process). In order to study in environmental impacts Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is applied to evaluate environmental impacts of phenol production processes. Environmental impacts are evaluated according to cradle-to-gate approach by using SimaPro 7.1 software for Life Cycle Assessment . Approach by IMPACT 2002+ . The result shows that cumene process is more environmentally favorable than toluene process.

Premna trichostoma Miq. (Lamiaceae) mainly distribute in Asia including Thailand. Folk healers use this plant to treat fever as a juice splash and bathe. The aims of this study are to evaluate the quantity of active constituents and antioxidant activity of P. trichostoma leaf extract. Total phenolic compounds were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu method. Total flavonoid contents were determined by Aluminum chloride method. The amount of apigenin and kaempferol contents were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In addition the antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH and ABTS assay. The results showed that total phenolic contents total flavonoid contents and the amount of apigenin and kaempferol of P. trichostoma leaf extract was 46.45±15.30 mg GAE/g extract 25.48±2.02 mg CE/g extract 11.16±0.04 and 4.54±0.08 µg/g extract respectively. The IC50 values from the DPPH and ABTS assay was 117.50±1.22 and 36.14±1.53 µg/ml respectively. This study shows the antioxidant properties and active constituents of P. trichostoma leaf extract which indicates the potentials for further development of this plant

ฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระของกุ่มบก
ฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระของกุ่มบก

The aim of this research was determine total phenolic content total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity by DPPH and ABTS assay from leaves flower and stem of Crateva adansonii DC. subsp. trifoliate (Roxb) Jacobs that was extracted by Soxhlet method using ethanol dichloromethane and ethyl acetate as solvent. Leaves extract showed the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Ethanolic leaf extract showed the highest total phenolic content (157.13±0.32 mg GAE/g extract) and antioxidant activity by DPPH assay (53.64±3.78% (IC50 = 1.49±0.02 mg/ml)) and ABTS assay (76.51±0.97% (IC50 = 0.84±0.01 mg/ml)).When we considering solvent effect found that ethanolic extract showed the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Total flavonoid content ethyl acetate extract showed the highest total flavonoid content. Total phenolic content significantly correlated with antioxidant activity.

Effect of extraction methods on mao berry marc properties
Effect of extraction methods on mao berry marc properties

In this study the mao berry marc which was divided into 5 varieties including Fapratan Phusung Phupanthong Yaykhamta and mixed variety were dried in tray dryer at low temperature (50?C) and high temperature (60?C) for 72 hr. All samples were investigated their properties including yield color water activity pH tannin total phenolic total anthocyanin antioxidant activity in term of %DPPH activity total microorganism and yeast & mold content. It was found that the yield color in term of ?h aw tannin and anthocyanin content of low temperature drying sample showed the highest value. However the total microorganism and yeast & mold content of high temperature drying samples were not present in all samples which less than those recommended in the Thai Community Product Standard (dried fruits: 136/2003). Eight trained-panelists were used for Hedonic scale (1-9 point) sensory evaluation including clarity color odor taste and overall linking of high temperature drying samples were similar in five varieties (P>0.05).
