Taxonomy and distribution of the plant family Podostemaceae in Phitsanulok and Phetchabun provinces, Thailand

Recent explorations of Podostemaceae have discovered 2 new species to science (Dalzellia TWA-216 และ Hydrobryum TWA-198) from Phitsanulok Province and 3 more genera and six more species from previously known (2 genera and 4 species). Totally five genera and 10 species occur in Phitsanulok and Phetchabun provinces. Based on morphological and molecular evidence the taxa are classified into subfamily Tristichoideae including 2 genera and 3 species (Dalzellia 2 spp. and Terniopsis 1 sp.) and subfamily Podostemoideae consisting 3 genera and 7 species (Hanseniella 1 sp. Hydrobryum 5 spp. and Thawatchaia 1 sp.). The species found in both provinces are Hy. phetchabunense and Hy. tardhuangense while D. kailarsenii is found only in Phetchabun. The plants discovered only in Phitsanulok include Dalzellia TWA-216 Hydrobryum TWA-198 Han. heterophylla Hy. bifoliatum Hy. kaengsophense Th. trilobata and T. minor. Among the species found Hy. tardhuangense and Th. trilobata are also distributed to the Lao PDR and the rests are endemic to Thailand.

The dominant feature of khao wong glutinous rice kalasin province for geographical indications
The dominant feature of khao wong glutinous rice kalasin province for geographical indications

The objective of this research was to study the dominant feature of Khao Wong glutinous rice Kalasin province for geographical indications. The effect of three cultivated areas of glutinous rice variety (RD6) consisting of Khao Wong Huai Mek and Kong Chai districts was investigated along with their physicochemical textural properties and thermal properties. For the effect of different cultivated areas on glutinous rice properties the significant effect of different cultivated areas on chemical compounds viscosity and textural properties was observed (p?0.05). There was no significant effect of cultivated areas on amylose content (p>0.05). The highest protein and ash contents and the lowest setback hardness and chewiness values were found in the sample cultivated in Khao Wong district area. The aroma compounds analysis of rice samples revealed that methanecarboxylic acid was observed in glutinous rice cultivated in all studied areas. Whereas the highest content of 122-Trimethylcyclopropylamine was found in the sample cultivated at Khao Wong and Kong Chai districts. In addition the highest content of 2-cis-9-octadecenyloxyethanol was observed in glutinous rice cultivated at Huai Mek district.

Marketing channel of organic longan in domestic and foreign markets
Marketing channel of organic longan in domestic and foreign markets

This study was aimed to explore marketing channel of organic longan in domestic and foreign markets as well as problems encountered of the northern organic longan group. Data collection was done through in-depth interview and focus group discussion. Results of the study revealed that the northern organic longan group had marketing channel of organic lognan both in domestic and foreign markets. It was found that domestic market employed two channel: selling organic longan directly to consumers and selling organic longan to middlemen. For foreign market it was found that the northern organic longan group sold their yields to middlemen and after that the middlemen sent it to foreign market. In the case of domestic market organic longan was mostly sent to Top Supermarket. For foreign market it was mostly sent to Singapore European and Asian countries. For problems encountered the following were found: an amount of organic longan was inadequate for need of the market; uncertainty of organic longan yields in each year; few organic longan markets; and increased production costs due to high price of gasoline.

Effects of cryoprotectants on qualities of dorab wolf-herring gel and fish balls
Effects of cryoprotectants on qualities of dorab wolf-herring gel and fish balls

The objectives of this study was to evaluate effects of cryoprotectants on Dorab wolf herring gel qualities using sucrose (3 and 6%) with sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP 0.3%) as cryoprotectants at 0 3 and 6 freeze-thaw cycle (-18 C 18 hr. freezing and 5 C 6 hr. thawing). The results showed that added 3 and 6% sucrose in combination with 0.3% STPP to washed minced fish resulted in whiter gel than washed minced fish with no cryoprotectants and unwashed minced fish at 0 3 and 6 freeze-thaw cycles (P0.05). Besides expressible moisture of washed minced fish with cryoprotectants added was found lower than washed minced fish with no cryoprotectants and unwashed minced fish at 0 3 and 6 freeze-thaw cycle (P 0.05). Textural properties i.e. washed minced fish with cryoprotectants gel strength (breaking force g) was higher than washed minced fish with no cryoprotectants at 0 freeze-thaw cycle but gel elasticity (deformation cm.) was not statistically different (P>0.05).

Antimicrobial activity of endophytic fungi isolated from myrtaceae at kuankreng peatlands
Antimicrobial activity of endophytic fungi isolated from myrtaceae at kuankreng peatlands

The purpose of this research was to study antimicrobial activity of endophytic fungi isolated from Myrtaceae ( Melaleuca cajeputi Malaleuca leucadendra Syzygium cumini L. and Rhodomyrtus tomentasa (Ait.) Hassk.) at Kuankreng Peatlands. A total of 124 isolates of endophytic fungi were obtained from all plant types. Three week old fermentation broths of endophytic fungi were tested for antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microorganisms using the agar well diffusion method. Forty- six isolates (37.1%) inhibited at least 1 type of pathogen. Fermentation broth and cells of active endophytes were further extracted with organic solvents and tested for MIC using the microdilution broth method. The results show that 156 of the total of 174 crude extracts (89.6%) produced MIC ? 200 g/mL. The lowest MIC for S. aureus ATCC25923 MRSA SK1 P. aeruginosa ATCC27853 C. albicans ATCC90028C. neoformans ATCC90012 and M. gypseum were 128 200 200 64 200 16 and 200 g/mL respectively.
