This research was study the optimum condition for chitosan film forming from preparing the chitosan solution 2% (w/w) that added with acetic acid 1% (w/w). The solution viscosity was adjusted by glycerol at 15 30 and 45 % (w/w) and Tween 10% (w/w). From the experimental results in case of the chitosan solution that adding with glycerol 45 % (w/w) Tween 10% (w/w) and drying which final moisture content at 23 % (d.b.) affected the highest viscosity of the chitosan film that compared with other condition. The ultimate tensile strength of chitosan film was 4.14 MPa. For banana storage testing the banana was wrapped with chitosan film for 10 days at room temperature the first five days the color of banana peel was yellow normally after that the peel was slightly increased with dark color. The total soluble solid of the banana was in the range of 19-28 Brix.

Effects of chitosan contents on latex properties and physical properties of natural rubber latex/chitosan composites
Effects of chitosan contents on latex properties and physical properties of natural rubber latex/chitosan composites

In this study natural rubber latex/chitosan (NRL/CT) composites were prepared by latex mixing. The effects of chitosan on latex properties and physical Properties of NRL/CT composite films were focused. It was found that there was no significant change in the latex properties with increasing CT content. Increasing CT contents of 0.5 to 8.0 phr caused the rising of 300 % modulus of the NRL/CT composite whereas the opposite trend was found for tensile strength and elongation at break. The antimicrobial efficacy of the chitosan-incorporated rubber was slightly enhanced from that of the non-chitosan rubber. By comprehensive consideration CT content suitable for antibacterial gloves according to Thai industrial standards (TIS 1056-1: 2013) was 1 phr. For other latex products that require high modulus and antibacterial activity such as tubing pillow foam rubber nipple and catheter CT could be used at higher contents from 2 to 4 phr.

This research aimed to develop paper from oil palm empty fruit bunch (Fb) oil palm mesocarp (M) and paper mulberry (P) with chitosan coating to be used as single-use paper bag for dry food products. The optimal pulp preparation conditions for Fb M and P fibers were boiling in 25 25 and 15% NaOH solution at 170 170 and 100°C for 3 hours respectively. The optimal H2O2 concentrations for bleaching of Fb M and P pulps were 40% 40% and 0.2% respectively. The obtained pulps were used to prepare papers with the basis weight of 109 g/m2 . The papers consisted of Fb M and P pulps at ratios of 70:0:30 (FbP) 0:70:30 (MP) and 35:35:30 (FbMP). It was found that FbP paper showed superior physical and/or mechanical characteristics than those of MP and FbMP. FbP papers were then coated with chitosan solutions (0.2-0.6%) to further improve their mechanical properties and reduce their water absorption characteristics. The optimal concentration of chitosan was 0.4%. This study showed that all three types of pulps could be used to produce papers that had equal or superior mechanical- and water adsorption properties as compared to those of commercially available paper bags made from wood pulp.

The removal efficiency of oil and grease from cafeteria wastewater by using chitosan from shrimp shell
The removal efficiency of oil and grease from cafeteria wastewater by using chitosan from shrimp shell

Chitosan natural cationic polysaccharides is synthesized by deacetylation of chitin one of the major structural elements of exoskeleton of crustacean shrimps. Due to its combination of many unique properties such as no toxicity biocompatibility and biodegradability chitosan has been widely used to adsorb fat and heavy metal absorbents. The present study was undertaken to demonstrate that chitosan extracted from shrimp shell wastes had ability in fat and oil adsorption. In the process 50% chitin in shrimp shells was first obtained and converted into for 25% chitosan through demineralization deproteination and deacetylation process. The highest adsorption performance at 72% was achieved at the chitosan sample at the condition composed of 0.6 g chitosan agitating in 400 mg/L of synthetic water comprising of fat and oil shaking at 90 rpm/min for 10 min. and thus equilibrating for 15 min. at room temperature. Its fat and oil removal efficiency was a effectively close the with that of commercial chitosan (86% and 85% oil and grease removal efficiency). The synthetic chitosan revealed 68.42% adsorption efficiency in treating in water sample with 570 mg/L of oil and fat from the effluent in the canteen at Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon North Campus. Therefore from overall the chitosan prepared from shrimp shells could possibly be further developed for future application in oil and fat removal from waste water treatment system.

This research was aimed to study the effect of chitosan on total polyphenol contents anthocyanin contents antiradical properties and resistance of rice blast disease in Sung Yod Phatthalung rice (Oryza sativar L.) cultivars. The chitosan was applied on rice leaves at concentrations of 50 100 and 500 ppm compared with the control (without the chitosan and only adding a 0.025% acetic acid respectively). The result showed that 500 ppm of chitosan could significantly increase the total polyphenol contents (220.75 mg GAE/100 g dry weight sample) anthocyanin contents (2.98 mg/100 g dry weight sample) and antiradical properties (83.15%) in the grain extracts of Sung Yod Phatthalung rice. In addition Necrosis test on rice leaves treated with 500 ppm of chitosans clearly indicated the plant resistance againt Pyricularia grisea. Therefore the future studies of chitosan activation mechanism will give more valuable information that possible to be applied in the healthy rice product development and fungal disease control.
